ANA – Hearing the Ducks have significant interest in Vrbata, Eriksson and Boedker. They are willing to give up one of Vatanen or Fowler for some help in the top-6 winger positions. For a playoff run they also have significant interest in Stempniak and Parenteau. Andersen has also been getting some interest around the league, hearing Calgary will wait until the summer to try to make a deal with the Ducks re: Andersen.
ARI – From a source within the organization, I can say that the Arizona Coyotes are not going to re-sign Boedker and are trying to move him before the deadline. FLA/LA/CHI/ANA have all kicked tires on Boedker and the Coyotes are looking for a roster player, pick and prospect in return for the power forward.
BOS – Looks more and more likely that the Bruins will end up dealing Eriksson prior to or on trade deadline day. The Bruins are looking for a top-4 defensemen in return and one source told me the Ducks would be the most logical trading partner as they have an abundance of defensemen.
BUF – Hearing that McGuinn is likely to re-sign with the Buffalo Sabres but a source also said that if a team is willing to offer up a 2nd round pick + other assets (prospects) for the veteran forward, Tim Murray will take it and run. They are also getting significant interest in Cody Franson and Josh Gorges, both are unlikely to be traded but the Sabres are also looking for draft picks in return for these two players. Per a source the Sabres are also close to dealing Mike Weber to an Eastern Conference team, hearing Caps or Pens.
CGY – Per a source, the Flames and Johnny Gaudreau are working on a lengthy contract extension. Same source has said that Gaudreau is looking for an 8-year contract worth up to $50-60 million dollar deal and trust me he will get something north of just that. The Flames are also getting calls on defensemen, Russell and forward, Hudler. Source said Hudler will be dealt but thinks Russell will be re-signed. However, teams like the Pens, Sharks and Islanders have contacted the flames re: Hudler and teams such as the Stars, Caps and Kings have talked to the flames re: Russell. Calgary also has interest in Leaf’s goaltenders Bernier+Reimer but like Andersen better and are willing to wait until the off-season to get him (look at the ANA section for more info on this).
CAR – Hearing many names out of Carolina. Source said players like E. Staal, J. Skinner, and K. Versteeg are available. Look for the NYR/STL/MTL to pursue Staal and a team like CHI to go hard after Versteeg if they miss out on Boedker/Vrbata/Eriksson. Skinner is a name that has been floating out there for months and no team has shown more interest in him than the Toronto Maple Leafs. It’s safe to say that the Hurricanes would want a 2nd round picks+prospects back for the forward.
CHI – Blackhawks have been working the phone hard. They have interest in many players including Ladd, Eriksson, Boedker, Parenteau, and Eller. There is also a rumour that surfaced recently re: Bickell. The Leafs are willing to take on Bickell’s contract if the Hawks include their first round pick in this years draft and barring any changes it doesn’t seem like Bickell will be a Toronto Maple Leaf.
COL – Nothing really brewing with the Avalanche, a very quiet organization but I keep on hearing they have significant interest in Jonathan Drouin. The club would also like to re-sign Tyson Barrie but a source said neither sides have held contract talks, which is a bit unusual as both parties have a mutual agreement.
CBJ – Team has been quiet as of late but can confirm that Hartnell is indeed being shopped. Team such as NSH/SJS are looking into Hartnell for a deep playoff run. Jackets have also been getting calls on Atkinson and Rychel but talks have cooled down on these two players but it will certainly heat up closer to the deadline.
DAL – The Stars organization has been working the phones hard in hopes of landing a veteran defensemen. The team has contacted the Vancouver Canucks re: Dan Hamhuis, the Carolina Hurricanes re: John-Michael Liles, and the Toronto Maple Leafs re: Matt Hunwick. Dallas is willing to give up one of their better prospects and draft picks in order to get a legitimate NHl defensemen so they can will now rather than later. The Stars have also been getting calls on Valeri Nichushkin but it would take a premium to get him.
DET – Nothing really new with the Detroit Red Wings but hearing they would like to add a top-6 defensemen but the asking price is way too high for their liking but I heard they have interest in Justin Schultz. Moreover, Holland is still trying to deal Jimmy Howard but no teams are budging as his contract lasts for another 3-years at $5.5M.
EDM – Don’t look for the Oilers to make a big splash during the trade deadline but rather in the off season. The team is willing to move forward Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Jordan Eberle for immediate help on the blue line. They are also taking calls on Schultz but no team has been offering anything of value thus the Oilers are still unable to move him.
FLA – Nothing much is coming out of Florida but it is well known around the league that Tallon is looking for a top-6 winger and bottom depth forwards. He has been in contact with the Jets re: Ladd and Coyotes re: Boedker. He also has in eyes on Leafs players: Parenteau and Boyes, and Canadiens players: Weise and Eller. Nothing is imminent as of right now but if the prices to don’t decrease dramatically don’t look for Tallon to make a ill-advised move for the heck of it.
LA – Hearing the Kings and Lucic will be closing in on a contract extension sooner rather than later. They also had interest in Roman Polak but since he was traded the the Sharks their focus now shifts to Hamhuis, Schultz and Liles. The team is also dangling Pearson for the right price however there has not been that much interest in him.
MIN – Hearing the Wilds are still trying to pursue Jonathan Drouin and are willing to trade away certain players. Hearing Matt Dumba, Jason Zucker and Mikael Granlund are available for the right price but don’t be shocked if this was a package sent for Drouin. Nothing else has been popping in the great Wild other than that, sorry if my Wild fans were looking for more.
MTL – Ahhh the Canadiens… Nothing really to report but no they will not trade Subban, Pacioretty or Galchenyuk. They were in the hunt for E. Staal but don’t think they give up specific assets in order to acquire. There is a market for Weise, Fleischmann, and Eller and the Canadiens would welcome back a couple of picks+prospects. Also, look for the Habs and Byron to come to an agreement on a new contract by the trade deadline, hearing a 3-year deal is on the table for Byron.
NSH – Hearing the Predators are in the market for a top-6 winger that has some playoff experience. They have been linked to Patrick Marleau, however I do not see the Sharks trading him. They have also talked to the Blue Jackets (again) in regards to Hartnell and Rychel but don’t think the Predators can get another deal done with the Jackets. They’ve also looked into Parenteau and Drouin but per source.
NJD – The New Jersey Devils will be active come TDD. Hearing they were close to a trade that involved Gelinas and CBJ’s Atkinson but was turned down at the last second by Jarmo. However teams such as Dallas and Toronto could be calling the Devils before the trade deadline as they really need help on their blue line. They will also be trading Lee Stempniak, source said he’s done in New Jersey.
NYI – You Islander fans can relax. A source has told me that Kyle Okposo WILL NOT be traded this year and will most likely re-signed before July 1st. However, I’m hearing Garth Snow has interest in Grabner+Parenteau and wouldn’t mind reuniting them with John Tavares. Leafs are looking for two 2nd round picks for that package per source. Moreover, Harmonic trade rumours have stalled but the Oilers remain the frontrunners with a plethora of forwards available to trade for the young defensive defensemen.
NYR – Nothing really to report on the Rangers but I ALWAYS hear them connected to Eric Staal. Per source it would take draft picks+decent prospects to land the veteran centre and the Rangers are certainly interested. Also it has been made known that Yandle will not be dealt this year and they are looking to make depth moves (Stempniak/Boyes/Grabner).
OTT – Hearing the Senators still have significant interest in Drouin but talks with the Lightning regarding him have gone cold. Nothing else is brewing in Ottawa but expect some minor moves/depth moves. However, I heard Mika Zibanejad is available for the right price but that right price is at a premium.
PHI – Per a source within the Flyers organization has told me that they have been shopping Mark Streit, R.J. Umberger, Sam Gagner, and Matt Read but there has been low interest in all 4 players. Source also said the Flyers are looking for depth pieces and prospects in return for those players and there is enough time to make moves.
PIT – Really haven’t heard a peep out of Pittsburgh ever since the coaching change. I knew they had interest in Polak but since he has been dealt a source informed me they have been eyeing Kris Russell from the Calgary Flames. Nothing is imminent but Rutherford would like to add a top-6 defensemen to increase the Penguins chances to get into the playoffs.
SJS – Sharks already made their move by acquiring both Polak and Spaling. Any other moves the Sharks will make will be depth related, don’t think they make a big splash but they do need an upgrade in goaltending. With Stalock ‘shitting the bed’ the would like to add a backup goaltender and I keep hearing Reimer’s name linked with the Sharks.
STL – The Blues have been in contact with the Leafs over the past 24 hours. The Blues have expressed interest in both Kadri and Lupul but another source said Kadri and Reimer, but nonetheless both club have been talking a lot over the last 24 hours. Moreover, the Blues also have interest in Drouin but they would need to take back Carle and give up Shattenkirk per source and GM Armstrong is not willing to do that per source.
TBL – Hearing it is VERY likely the Bolts trade Jonathan Drouin prior to the trade deadline. Many teams are in the mix for Drouin: Blues, Canadiens, Wild, Ducks, Flyers, Flames, Jets and Predators to name a few. They also have been trying to deal Carle but to sweeten the pot GM Yzerman is willing to trade their first round pick in this year’s draft in order to get rid of the contract.
TOR – Ahh, Toronto – The mecca of hockey. Almost everyone on the Leafs is available except for Gardiner, JVR and Rielly. Leafs have been getting many calls on PAP, Boyes, Hunwick and Grabner and look for all 4-players to be dealt by the trade deadline. Also overheard that the Leafs have significant interest in Trouba and Gelinas but both deals would come at a premium and would have to give up a good prospect to get a shot at those two defensemen.
VAN – A source close to the organization told me that the Canucks will be trading both Vrbata and Hamhuis by the trade deadline. Many teams are interested and are looking for draft picks or young NHL ready players for both Vrbata and Hamhuis. There was also a rumour going around about a potential McCann+ for J. Drouin, a source said it is not out of the question with Benning in charge.
WSH – Hearing the Capitals are looking for a top-6 defensemen and have contacted both the Sabres and Canucks regarding Mike Weber and Dan Hamhuis. Nothing else is brewing but the Caps would like to add a defensemen sooner rather than later. Also hearing they would like to trade away Brooks Laich and a team like the Leafs would be interested if they got a high draft pick back along side Laich.
WPG – Per a close source within the organization, GM Kevin Cheveldayoff has notified Andrew Ladd that he will NOT be back with in the Winnipeg Jets and would rather be traded by the deadline. There are many options for Cheveldayoff but he is looking for a first round pick and a B-level prospect in return for Ladd and it has been known that the Blackhawks are the frontrunners as of right now.
